Additional facilities comprise VIP lounges, executive suites, and green rooms to cater to distinguished guests and performers. Inauguration Plans and Project Background
The convention centre is expected to be inaugurated by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, which falls on April 14. This timing aligns with the tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar, whose legacy is honored through the park and its associated developments.
The project was initiated by the State Government through the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) at an approximate cost of Rs 90 crore. It aims to establish a modern civic infrastructure facility capable of hosting large-scale conferences, cultural programmes, exhibitions, and government events in a professionally designed environment.
Integration with Ambedkar Smriti Vanam Park
The convention centre is an integral part of the broader Rs 404 crore Ambedkar Smriti Vanam Park development. This park includes notable features such as a 125-foot statue called the Statue of Social Justice, an Ambedkar life experience centre, and a food court. According to an APIIC official, works worth Rs 320 crore have been completed at the Smriti Vanam Park, marking significant progress in the overall project.
The official emphasized that the convention centre is poised to become a major hub for cultural, official, and entertainment events in the region. Furthermore, with the addition of this facility, the Smriti Vanam Park is expected to generate significant revenue by leasing out the convention centre for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) programmes in Vijayawada.
Impact on Regional Development
This development strengthens Vijayawada's capacity to host national and international events, positioning it as a key destination for business and cultural activities. The convention centre's modern design and comprehensive amenities are set to enhance the city's appeal, contributing to economic growth and community engagement through diverse event offerings.
