Thousands of residents in Mumbai's Kandivali East area are set to face significant water disruption as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has scheduled an extensive 18-hour water shutdown for essential pipeline work this Thursday.
Affected Areas and Timing
Four key residential localities - Thakur Village, Samta Nagar, Chikhalwadi, and Janu Pada in Kandivali East will experience complete water supply interruption beginning Thursday, December 4 at 1:30 pm and continuing until Friday, December 5 at 7:30 am.
The timing is particularly challenging for residents as these areas typically receive their daily water supply between 6:25 pm and 8:25 pm, meaning they will miss their regular water timing completely on December 4.
Pipeline Work Details
The BMC is undertaking crucial pipeline infrastructure improvements in the R/South ward that necessitate the extended water cut. Civic officials explained that the work involves two major operations.
A new 900-mm pipeline along the Western Express Highway will be connected to another 900-mm main line, while simultaneously, an aging 900-mm water main near the Thakur Complex entrance will be permanently disconnected from the system.
Preparations and Advisory
The municipal corporation has issued an urgent advisory to residents, strongly recommending that they store adequate water in advance to cope with the 18-hour shutdown period.
Residents are also advised to use water sparingly during this time and have been requested to cooperate with civic staff who will be on site conducting the water distribution improvement works.
This essential maintenance work is part of the BMC's ongoing efforts to upgrade Mumbai's aging water infrastructure and improve distribution efficiency across the city.
