Water Supply Disruption in Kochi on May 13 Due to Annual Maintenance
Water Supply Disruption in Kochi on May 13

Water supply to Kochi city and its suburbs will be disrupted on May 13 as the Kerala Water Authority's (KWA) water treatment plant at Aluva undergoes annual maintenance. The shutdown is scheduled for the day, and although maintenance will be completed by 6pm with supply resumption, it will take approximately 24 hours for water to reach tail-end areas.

Areas Affected by Disruption

The water supply disruption will impact Kochi corporation limits, as well as the municipalities of Aluva, Kalamassery, Eloor, and Thrikkakara. Additionally, the panchayats of Edathala, Keezhmad, Choornikkara, Cheranellore, Mulavukad, Elamkunnapuzha, and Njarakkal will experience interruptions. KWA officials have informed residents to make necessary arrangements in advance.

Reason for Annual Maintenance

The shutdown is part of the annual maintenance carried out prior to the monsoon season. A KWA official explained the necessity: 'We have to complete repair works, especially those related to electrical parts, before the monsoon. Otherwise, fungal growth on electrical components can lead to power failures and short circuits. That is why we perform this maintenance just before the monsoon.'

Residents are advised to store sufficient water for the day. The KWA assures that supply will resume promptly after maintenance, though full restoration to all areas may take up to 24 hours.
