West Bengal Govt Pushes E-Transport, Metro, Renewable Energy

Kolkata: The West Bengal state government is set to promote electric transport, enhance urban connectivity, and expand renewable energy initiatives under various central government-assisted schemes. Chief Minister Adhikari made these announcements during the launch of the Swachh App on Saturday.

Push for E-Transport and Renewable Energy

Addressing concerns over rising pollution levels, Adhikari emphasized the need to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles. "Pollution is a major concern with high pollution levels. To combat this, we must push e-transport as much as possible, and we need support from the central government," he stated. The chief minister also highlighted the importance of renewable energy projects and sought assistance for small municipalities under the new urban challenge fund managed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Metro Connectivity and Urban Development

Adhikari revealed that a bottleneck for the metro project at Chingrighata has been resolved. The Union Minister suggested that cities with populations between 25 to 30 lakh could develop metro services, and proposals should be sent to Delhi. Following this, the chief minister instructed state government officials to begin preparing detailed project reports (DPR) for potential metro expansions.

Collaboration with DVC and Flood Management

On the issue of flooding, Adhikari criticized the previous government for blaming the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) during monsoons. He announced that DVC, the state irrigation department, and other agencies will work together to manage flooding in the upcoming monsoon season.

Double Engine Government Benefits

The chief minister noted that the state has started reaping the benefits of a 'double engine' government, where both the state and centre cooperate. State officials will visit Delhi to attend meetings and explore further opportunities for collaboration.
