The Directorate of Elementary Education in Odisha conducted the second round of centralised online lottery on Wednesday, allotting seats to 10,120 students in private schools. This process facilitates admissions under Section 12(1)(c) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RCFCE) Act, 2009, for the 2026-27 academic session.
Admissions for Economically Weaker Sections
Under the RTE Act, children from economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups are entitled to free education at the entry level in private schools. In Odisha, these admissions are managed through the RTE Paradarshi portal. The second phase of online student registration commenced on April 4 and continued until April 24. A total of 20,377 students submitted applications via the portal, of which 15,624 were verified by block education officers and deemed eligible for the lottery.
Admission Timeline
Directorate officials confirmed that the admission process for selected students will begin on April 30 and run through May 18. Director of Elementary Education Balamukunda Bhuyan, along with other senior officials, was present during the lottery draw.
This initiative ensures that children from disadvantaged backgrounds have access to quality education in private schools, as mandated by the RTE Act.
