Andhra Pradesh Government Launches Major Push for Tribal Road Connectivity
In a significant development aimed at transforming the lives of tribal communities, the Andhra Pradesh government has prioritized the enhancement of road connectivity in interior tribal hamlets. Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar made this announcement on Tuesday during the Assembly session, attributing the renewed focus to the special attention of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
Comprehensive Plan for All-Weather Roads
Replying on behalf of the Deputy Chief Minister during Question Hour, Minister Manohar detailed that a comprehensive and strategic plan is being actively implemented. The primary objective is to ensure that even the most remote tribal habitations are connected with durable all-weather roads. This initiative addresses a long-standing issue where lack of proper infrastructure has severely hampered access to essential services.
Manohar informed the House that road works with a cumulative value of nearly Rs 1,000 crore have been initiated under various central and state schemes. These projects are specifically designed to strengthen and modernize connectivity in tribal-dominated areas, thereby bridging a critical developmental gap.
Substantial Investments Under Key Schemes
The minister provided a detailed breakdown of the financial commitments and project scope. Under the prestigious PM Jan Mann scheme alone, a total of 303 distinct road works have been sanctioned. These projects will cover an impressive 341 tribal hamlets at a sanctioned cost of Rs 914 crore, representing a massive investment in rural infrastructure.
In a complementary effort, an additional 81 road works have been grounded under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). These projects are set to benefit 156 hamlets and are being executed at an estimated cost of Rs 111 crore. This multi-scheme approach ensures a broad and impactful reach across the state's tribal regions.
"Adavi Talli Bata" Initiative for Last-Mile Connectivity
Minister Manohar emphasized that Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan is particularly keen on the "Adavi Talli Bata" initiative. This special program is meticulously crafted to provide road access to the most remote and inaccessible tribal villages. The core aim is to guarantee last-mile connectivity and establish basic infrastructure in forest and agency areas, which have historically been neglected.
The lack of proper road connectivity has for decades crippled access to healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and local markets for tribal communities, Manohar stated. He affirmed that the present state government is resolutely determined to address this infrastructural deficit and usher in a new era of development and inclusion.
Consistent Financial Allocation and Monitoring
Highlighting the government's unwavering financial commitment, the minister revealed that allocations under the PM Jan Mann scheme have been consistently increased. These funds are exclusively earmarked for creating superior infrastructure in tribal regions. The expenditure pattern demonstrates a steady rise:
- An amount of nearly Rs 280 crore was utilized during the financial year 2023–24.
- This was followed by an allocation of Rs 290 crore in 2024–25.
- For the current financial year 2025–26, a sum of Rs 318 crore has been earmarked and is being actively utilized to expedite ongoing works.
Minister Manohar asserted that improving road infrastructure in these tribal hamlets will have a profound and multi-faceted impact. It is expected to significantly enhance socio-economic conditions by facilitating easier transportation of goods and people, improving the efficient delivery of various welfare schemes, and boosting livelihood opportunities through better market access.
The minister provided a firm assurance to the Assembly that the government will maintain rigorous oversight. The progress of all sanctioned road projects in tribal areas will be closely monitored to ensure their timely and successful completion, thereby fulfilling the promise of connectivity and development for all citizens.
