Andhra Pradesh Achieves National Leadership in Micro-Irrigation Implementation

In a significant agricultural milestone, Andhra Pradesh has emerged as India's foremost state in executing the Micro Irrigation Project (APMIP). The state successfully brought a record-breaking 1.26 lakh hectares under micro-irrigation during the 2025-26 financial year, setting a new benchmark for water-efficient farming practices nationwide.

Chief Minister Celebrates Surpassing Annual Targets

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed profound satisfaction with this achievement on Friday, congratulating officials and staff for exceeding annual goals. This accomplishment positions Andhra Pradesh ahead of Gujarat, which secured second place with 1.05 lakh hectares under micro-irrigation.

Naidu emphasized that this success reflects the state government's unwavering commitment to ensuring efficient utilization of every drop of water and translating policy intentions into tangible results on the ground.

Widespread Benefits for Farmers and Diverse Crops

The expanded coverage under APMIP has directly benefited 1,08,143 farmers across the state. Naidu extended his greetings to the farming community, expressing optimism that modern irrigation techniques would lead to improved crop yields and higher incomes.

He highlighted that adopting drip and sprinkler irrigation systems not only conserves precious water resources but also reduces cultivation costs, thereby helping farmers achieve greater financial stability.

Farmers cultivating a diverse range of crops are availing the scheme's benefits, including:

  • Tomato
  • Oil palm
  • Chilli
  • Pulses

The chief minister reiterated the government's continued support for the agricultural community in embracing advanced farming practices.

Substantial Financial Support and Future Vision

Under the APMIP initiative, the state government has provided subsidies worth Rs 1030 crore to eligible farmers. Naidu directed officials to further strengthen micro-irrigation implementation and ensure timely disbursement of subsidy benefits to all qualified farmers.

The government's broader objective is to bring several thousand additional hectares under micro-irrigation in the coming years, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a global horticulture hub. Naidu called for sustained momentum, urging officials to treat micro-irrigation as a fundamental pillar of the state's agricultural transformation and comprehensive water management strategy.
