Bihar Government Integrates Jeevika Didis with PM Vishwakarma Scheme to Empower Rural Women
In a significant move to promote skill-based employment among rural women, the Bihar state government has announced the integration of 'Jeevika didis' with the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive training and financial support to women across the state, fostering economic independence and revitalizing traditional crafts.
Training and Loan Access for Women
According to BJP spokesperson Preeti Shekhar, who made the announcement in a statement on Friday, the rural development department will spearhead the training programs. One woman from each family will be eligible to receive low-interest loans under the scheme, enabling them to pursue livelihoods in various traditional trades.
Shekhar emphasized that this integration addresses a critical gap: "Women who wish to earn their livelihood by engaging in 18 distinct types of traditional trades like handicrafts and artisanal work but have lagged behind due to a lack of modern resources will now find new opportunities through this scheme."
Boosting Self-Reliance and Rural Economy
The scheme is designed not only to empower women individually but also to contribute to broader economic goals. Shekhar highlighted that "this scheme will not only render women self-reliant but will also reinforce the resolve to build a self-reliant Bihar and India." By connecting Jeevika didis with skill-based employment, the initiative aims to lend a new identity and dignity to traditional craftsmanship.
Furthermore, the provision of low-interest loans is expected to economically empower women, while their increased participation in employment will give a fresh push to the rural economy. Shekhar added, "The NDA government in the state remains committed to educating, empowering, and making women self-reliant."
Key Features of the Integration
- Skill Training: Comprehensive training programs will be conducted by the rural development department for women across Bihar.
- Financial Support: Low-interest loans will be provided to one woman per family to facilitate entrepreneurship in traditional trades.
- Traditional Trades Focus: The scheme targets 18 distinct types of traditional trades, including handicrafts and artisanal work.
- Economic Impact: Aims to boost self-reliance among women and stimulate the rural economy through increased employment.
This strategic integration underscores the government's dedication to enhancing women's roles in economic development, leveraging existing frameworks like Jeevika didis to maximize outreach and effectiveness in rural areas.
