Bokaro: The district administration has initiated the process to develop 10 model solar villages under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, marking a significant step towards clean and sustainable energy in rural areas. Officials have been directed to identify suitable villages across various blocks and ensure bank-linked loan support for beneficiaries to expedite rooftop solar power adoption.
Deputy Commissioner's Statement
Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha emphasized the focus on execution and village selection. "We are focused on the effective implementation of the scheme and road map for identifying suitable villages across different blocks. Officials have been directed to select villages where community participation and successful execution of the programme can be ensured. Once identified, the villages will be developed as model centres for solar-powered growth and energy efficiency," he said.
Financial Support for Beneficiaries
The administration has also stressed easier access to finance to encourage more household participation. Banks and financial institutions will be encouraged to extend loan facilities to eligible families, enabling the installation of rooftop solar systems under the scheme. This initiative aims to remove financial barriers and accelerate the adoption of solar energy in rural households.
Expected Benefits
Jha highlighted the multiple benefits expected for rural communities. "Besides reducing monthly electricity expenses, it will promote the use of renewable energy and contribute to environmental conservation," he said. The programme is designed to lower energy costs while fostering environmental sustainability.
Model Villages as Demonstration Sites
Officials stated that the model solar villages are intended to act as demonstration sites for other areas, helping drive wider adoption of solar power across the district. These villages will showcase the practical benefits and feasibility of solar energy, encouraging neighboring communities to follow suit. The initiative aligns with the national push to expand clean energy infrastructure and make households more energy self-reliant. By creating replicable models, the district aims to contribute significantly to India's renewable energy goals.
