The Delhi government on Friday opened the process for submitting new ration card applications and requests to add family members through the e-District portal. An official confirmed that several old and long-pending applications have also been sent back to applicants' e-District accounts for fresh submission.
Current Status of Ration Cards in Delhi
Delhi currently has over 17 lakh ration card holders covering nearly 73 lakh beneficiaries under the public distribution system (PDS). These beneficiaries receive subsidised food grains through approximately 2,000 fair price shops across the capital.
New Ration Cards Announcement
Earlier this year, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that around two lakh new ration cards would be issued in 2026. This move aims to expand coverage and ensure more eligible families benefit from the PDS.
The Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs stated that applicants facing difficulties can seek assistance through the helpline number 1967. The department has also encouraged applicants to check their e-District accounts for any pending actions or updates regarding their applications.
This initiative is part of the government's efforts to streamline the ration card application process and reduce pendency. By reopening the portal for new submissions and clearing old applications, the government hopes to improve access to subsidised food grains for Delhi's residents.
