Delhi Government Initiates Disbursement of Long-Pending Electric Vehicle Subsidies
The Delhi government has commenced the disbursement of long-pending electric vehicle purchase subsidies under the Delhi Electric Vehicles Policy 2020. The transport department announced that it has initiated the release of incentives to 3,948 beneficiaries from firms whose documentation and eligibility verification processes are complete.
Court Order Drives Action on Subsidy Backlog
This significant move follows a Delhi High Court order issued in September last year, which directed the government to immediately clear all pending EV subsidies. The court explicitly stated that procedural delays could not justify withholding payments and noted that the Delhi Electric Vehicles Policy 2020 does not specify any disbursal timeline for these incentives.
Substantial Financial Commitment to Green Mobility
The current subsidy disbursement amounts to Rs 7.9 crore, representing a substantial financial commitment to promoting electric vehicle adoption in the national capital. According to data available on the Delhi EV Incentive Portal, a total of 22,733 subsidy claims were pending before this initiative began.
Streamlined Verification Process
After implementing de-duplication procedures and Aadhaar validation protocols, the transport department identified 16,892 individual cases that were subsequently pushed to the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) for Aadhaar-based Direct Benefit Transfer. Of these verified cases, 12,877 beneficiaries have successfully completed Aadhaar seeding and are now eligible for subsidies totaling approximately Rs 24 crore.
Ongoing Verification for Remaining Cases
Another 4,015 cases, representing subsidy amounts of Rs 7.3 crore, are currently undergoing Aadhaar verification processes. These cases will be processed once the verification is complete, ensuring that all eligible beneficiaries receive their entitled subsidies.
Enhanced Transparency Through PFMS Platform
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh emphasized that the government has transitioned the subsidy mechanism to the PFMS platform to ensure greater transparency in the disbursement process. The minister confirmed that the upgraded portal has been fully operationalized and that all pending cases will be processed on a priority basis to expedite payments to eligible electric vehicle purchasers.
This systematic approach to clearing the subsidy backlog demonstrates the Delhi government's commitment to supporting electric vehicle adoption while adhering to court directives and implementing more transparent financial management systems.
