Goa's G RAM G Scheme to Boost Rural Jobs, Add 25 Work Days
Goa CM Unveils G RAM G Scheme for Rural Economy

In a significant push for rural development, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced that the newly introduced Viksit Bharat-G RAM G scheme will be a game-changer for the state's village economy. He called upon local governance bodies to actively identify projects for implementation under this initiative.

Key Features and Enhanced Benefits

Chief Minister Sawant detailed that the Viksit Bharat G RAM G Bill, 2025, will provide a substantial boost to rural employment. It guarantees an additional 25 days of work, raising the total from the existing 100 days to 125 days. This extension is poised to significantly increase household income in rural areas.

Highlighting the scheme's focus on inclusivity, Sawant pointed out that women's participation under MGNREGA currently stands at 48%. He expressed confidence that with dedicated focus under the new G RAM G framework, this participation could rise to an impressive 56%.

Addressing Agricultural and Climate Needs

The scheme is designed with farmers' needs at its core. Sawant explained that a unique provision allows the state government to block 60 days of work specifically for agricultural labour. This workforce can be deployed for community farming, a move aimed at overcoming the acute shortage of workers during the crucial monsoon season.

Beyond farming, the scope of work is broad. It includes constructing culverts and undertaking climate-resilient projects to combat pressing issues like flooding and soil erosion, making villages more sustainable.

Governance and Past Performance

The Chief Minister assured rigorous monitoring by the state government to ensure the scheme delivers tangible benefits to rural Goa. He provided context by citing the performance of the previous scheme, noting that since 2022, over 800 works were initiated, with 50% already completed.

In an administrative update, Sawant added that the employment guarantee card system would be revived. However, cards held by individuals over 75 years of age will be cancelled as part of the process.

The G RAM G scheme represents a targeted effort by the Goa government to strengthen rural livelihoods, empower women, and support the agricultural sector through a guaranteed employment model.
