Gujarat Chief Minister Oversees Rs 354 Crore Scholarship Disbursement to Nearly 14 Lakh Students

In a significant boost to education in Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel presided over a state-level event on Friday, where a substantial sum of Rs 354 crore was directly transferred into the bank accounts of 13.96 lakh students. This financial assistance was distributed under key government schemes, including the Namo Lakshmi Yojana, Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana, Mukhyamantri Gyan Sadhana Merit, Mukhyamantri Gyan Setu Merit Scholarship, and the SSIP 2.0 scheme.

Event Highlights and Government Initiatives

The ceremony, held at the Vidya Samiksha Kendra in Gandhinagar, saw virtual participation from students and teachers across the state. During his address, Chief Minister Patel emphasized the importance of education and urged students to limit their social media usage to focus more on their studies. He highlighted the positive impact of these schemes, noting a notable increase of between 6% and 7% in the enrolment of girls following the implementation of financial assistance programs.

An official statement revealed that, to date, the Gujarat government has provided a total assistance of Rs 1,871.78 crore to 27.61 lakh students under the Namo Lakshmi Yojana and Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana alone. Furthermore, a provision of Rs 1,500 crore has been earmarked in the state's 2026-27 budget specifically for these two schemes, underscoring the government's commitment to educational support.

Improvements in Education Infrastructure and Outcomes

Chief Minister Patel also shared encouraging statistics on educational outcomes in Gujarat. He reported that the overall dropout rate for girl students has significantly decreased to just 2%, a testament to the effectiveness of these initiatives. Additionally, schools across the state are now equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, such as smart classrooms and digital laboratories, enhancing the learning environment for students.

In a move to foster innovation and entrepreneurship, the CM disbursed incentive cheques under the SSIP 2.0 scheme. A total of Rs 69.69 lakh was awarded to 735 young students for their innovative projects. Education Minister Pradyuman Vaja elaborated on this, stating that at the school level, grants of up to Rs 20,000 are provided under SSIP to develop an interest in entrepreneurship among students.

Teacher Appointments and Future Plans

To further bolster the education system, Education Minister Vaja announced that in the past year, 12,708 teachers have been appointed in primary schools and 9,400 in secondary schools across Gujarat. This recruitment drive aims to improve the student-teacher ratio and ensure quality education delivery.

The event not only celebrated the financial aid distribution but also served as a platform to reinforce the government's dedication to educational advancement. With continued funding and strategic initiatives, Gujarat is making strides in reducing dropout rates, increasing enrolment, and fostering a culture of innovation among its youth.
