Haryana Government Approves Housing Projects for 2,646 Beneficiaries Under PMAY-U 2.0

In a significant move to boost affordable housing for urban poor and middle-class families, the Haryana government on Tuesday gave the green light to housing projects benefiting 2,646 individuals across 60 urban local bodies (ULBs) in the state. This decision was made during a meeting of the state-level sanctioning and monitoring committee, operating under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0 initiative.

High-Level Meeting Highlights Accelerated Implementation

The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, underscored Haryana's rapid progress in executing the central government's flagship housing scheme. PMAY-U 2.0 aims to provide pucca houses to families from economically weaker sections (EWS), lower income groups (LIG), and middle income groups (MIG) in urban areas, addressing a critical need for secure and durable housing.

Massive Public Response and Application Details

Commissioner and Secretary for Housing for All, Mohammed Shayin, revealed that an impressive 1,69,483 applicants have registered their housing demands through the unified web portal of the Government of India, demonstrating strong public trust in the scheme. Of these registrations, 97,584 applications fall under the beneficiary-led construction (BLC) vertical, while 71,899 are categorized under affordable housing in partnership (AHP).

Among the BLC applications, 46,902 have been validated to date, with 17,465 accepted and 29,437 rejected after thorough scrutiny. Additionally, 12,552 houses have been geo-tagged, a crucial step that enables the release of central funds to beneficiaries, ensuring timely financial support for construction.

Previous Approvals and Funding Releases

Prior to this latest approval, projects for 17,430 beneficiaries had already been sanctioned by the Government of India in earlier meetings of the central sanctioning and monitoring committee. These meetings, held on March 20, 2025, and October 15, 2025, respectively, paved the way for the construction of pucca houses under PMAY-U 2.0.

The central government has further bolstered these efforts by releasing Rs 1,304.40 lakh as the first instalment of the central share for 2,174 houses. This financial injection brings the dream of homeownership closer to reality for thousands of families across Haryana.

Latest Approval Details and Expanding Reach

In the recent meeting, the committee reviewed and approved projects for 2,409 beneficiaries from 51 ULBs. Additionally, projects for 237 beneficiaries from nine more ULBs were received and considered, bringing the total number of beneficiaries approved in this round to 2,646 across 60 ULBs. This expansion highlights the scheme's growing footprint across the state's urban landscape, as noted by Mohammed Shayin.

Financial Assistance Under BLC Vertical

Under the BLC vertical of PMAY-U 2.0, eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance totaling Rs 2.50 lakh. This includes a central share of Rs 1.50 lakh and a state share of Rs 1 lakh. The funds are designated for constructing all-weather, multi-storied pucca houses with a minimum carpet area of 30 square metres and a maximum of 45 square metres, ensuring quality and sustainability in housing solutions.
