Kanpur Farmers Receive 100 Eco-Friendly Brush Cutters to Tackle Stubble Burning
In a significant move to combat the persistent issue of stubble burning through sustainable technology, 100 battery-operated Vikalp E Brush Cutter machines were distributed to farmers at Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Dilip Nagar. This event, held on Tuesday, was organized under the auspices of Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, marking a proactive step towards environmental conservation.
Promoting Solar and Electric Alternatives
The distribution initiative targeted farmers from the Rasoolabad and Rajpur development blocks, operating under a scheme run by the directorate of extension. This program is specifically designed to encourage the adoption of solar and electric-powered alternatives, reducing reliance on traditional, polluting methods like stubble burning.
Chief guest Dr. V. K. Tripathi emphasized that these machines will empower farmers to manage crop residue more efficiently in their fields, thereby decreasing dependence on harmful burning practices. He highlighted the dual benefits of environmental protection and agricultural productivity enhancement.
Versatile and Cost-Effective Farming Tool
Anant Chaturvedi from Vikalp Sanstha provided detailed insights into the machine's capabilities. He explained that the Vikalp E Brush Cutter is a versatile tool suitable for harvesting various crops, including wheat, paddy, gram, urad, moong, and mustard. Additionally, it is effective for clearing wild grasses and controlling weeds during the off-season.
Chaturvedi noted that one laborer can harvest up to one acre in approximately 8 to 10 hours using this equipment. This efficiency translates to significant cost savings, with farmers potentially saving around Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 2,500 per acre. The machine not only boosts productivity but also offers a sustainable solution for year-round farm maintenance.

The program commenced with a warm welcome to the chief guest by centre in-charge Dr. A. K. Singh. Dr. Arun Kumar Singh delivered the vote of thanks, while Dr. Khalil Khan skillfully conducted the event proceedings.
Among the distinguished attendees were Dr. Mahak Singh and Dr. Vijay Kumar Yadav, along with a team of scientists including Dr. Rajesh Rai, Dr. Vinod Prakash, Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Singh, and Dr. Nimisha Awasthi. The event also saw the participation of research fellows and over 100 enthusiastic farmers, underscoring the community's commitment to embracing eco-friendly agricultural practices.
