Kerala's public distribution system has become a model for the entire country. It ensures food security reaches every eligible family without fail. Food and Public Distribution Minister G R Anil made this statement on Saturday.

Major Distribution Event in Nedumangad

Minister Anil personally handed out 39,000 new priority ration cards to deserving families. The function took place at the Nedumangad Town Hall. He emphasized the department's core mission.

The primary goal is to guarantee food availability for all sections of society. A key part of this mission involves eradicating poverty through systematic support.

Standing Strong During Crises

"Our department has consistently stood by the people in times of crisis," Minister Anil stated. He assured that the system works to leave no eligible family behind.

The cleansing of the priority beneficiary list is an ongoing process. Authorities are actively removing ineligible cards. This ensures benefits flow only to genuinely deserving families.

Significant Achievements Under Current Government

Minister Anil provided detailed figures on the government's accomplishments.

  • Since the present government took power, 5,85,169 families have received new ration cards.
  • This total includes 1,25,326 priority cards, 4,45,610 general category cards, and 8,427 NPI cards.

Furthermore, when considering newly issued and reclassified cards together:

  1. 6,76,700 eligible families have now obtained priority cards.
  2. An additional 65,440 families have been reclassified under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana category.

Nedumangad municipality chairperson R Jayadevan presided over the function. Several key officials attended the distribution ceremony.

The list included Civil Supplies Commissioner Hima K S, Councillor J Krishnakumar, District Supply Officer Sindhu K V, Taluk Supply Officer Seema, and Assistant Supply Officer Madhu.
