Maharashtra Rolls Out NCMC Smart Cards for State Bus Transport
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has officially launched its RuPay On-The-Go, NCMC-enabled smart card initiative, marking a significant step toward digitalizing public transport across the state. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the scheme on April 1, emphasizing its role in enhancing convenience, transparency, and accessibility for various passenger groups.
Inauguration and Distribution of Smart Cards
During the launch event, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, distributed the first NCMC smart cards to key beneficiaries. Recipients included Amrutmahotsavi senior citizen Ramesh Dhaware and concession-holder women Sangita Palkar and Varsha Kamble, symbolizing the scheme's focus on inclusive travel solutions.
Targeted Benefits for Diverse Passenger Segments
Under this initiative, NCMC smart cards linked to Aadhaar numbers will be provided to students, senior citizens, divyang (persons with disabilities), women, and other concession-holder passengers. This move aims to streamline the process of availing ST bus travel concessions, making it more efficient and user-friendly.
MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik highlighted that the cards will facilitate easier access to concessions while promoting digital and transparent travel management. He noted that this system is designed to reduce paperwork and delays, offering a seamless experience for passengers.
Widespread Registration and Accessibility
Registration and distribution of the NCMC smart cards will be available at all MSRTC depots and bus stations throughout Maharashtra. Additionally, registration facilities will be set up at approximately 3,000 authorized centres across the state, ensuring broad accessibility for residents.
Functionality and Pricing Details
Passengers can use the smart card for wallet top-ups, starting from a minimum amount of Rs 100. Cardholders have multiple options for topping up their balances, including ETIM machines on buses, the official website, mobile applications, and authorized agents. The price for the new NCMC card has been fixed at Rs 199, making it an affordable entry point into digital travel.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the importance of this initiative in driving a digital revolution within Maharashtra's public transport system. He stated, "This initiative is extremely important for bringing about a digital revolution in the state's public transport system like MSRTC. This will provide passengers with convenient, secure, and transparent services."
