Maharashtra Government Addresses MNREGA Payment Processing in Gadchiroli District

The Maharashtra government has officially informed the state legislature that payments for skilled work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) for eligible workers in Gadchiroli district are currently being processed through the central government's SNA Sparsh payment system. This announcement came in response to concerns raised by local legislators regarding financial hardships faced by farmers and laborers due to pending payments.

MLA's Concerns and Government Response

Gadchiroli MLA Dr. Milind Narote submitted a starred question to the legislature, directly questioning the government about payment delays that he claimed were causing significant financial distress to agricultural workers and daily wage laborers in the region. In a detailed written reply, Employment Guarantee Minister Bharat Gogawale addressed these concerns while providing comprehensive financial data about MNREGA implementation in the district.

Minister Gogawale firmly denied any systemic delays in payment processing, stating that over Rs 609 crore has been disbursed in Gadchiroli over the past three years. This substantial amount includes Rs 378.47 crore allocated for unskilled wages and Rs 231.04 crore designated for skilled work payments, demonstrating significant investment in rural employment initiatives.

Current Payment Processing Status

The minister revealed that Rs 115.86 crore is currently undergoing processing through new fund transfer orders (FTOs) being prepared under the Centre's SNA Sparsh system. This includes Rs 21.58 crore for unskilled wages and a substantial Rs 94.28 crore specifically for skilled work payments. The SNA Sparsh system represents the central government's digital payment infrastructure designed to streamline and secure financial transactions under various welfare schemes.

Future Funding Allocations

Looking ahead to the 2025-26 financial year, Minister Gogawale disclosed that a total of Rs 2,936.85 crore has been made available for MNREGA implementation. This funding comprises Rs 2,217.53 crore from the central government and Rs 719.32 crore from the state government, reflecting a collaborative approach to rural employment funding.

Additionally, the minister noted that Rs 1,409 crore from the Centre specifically for unskilled wages is currently being processed for distribution. This substantial allocation underscores the continued commitment to supporting rural workers through the MNREGA framework, with particular attention to both skilled and unskilled employment categories in districts like Gadchiroli.

The government's detailed response aims to provide transparency about payment mechanisms while addressing concerns about financial delays that affect vulnerable rural communities dependent on employment guarantee programs for their livelihood.
