Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Greenlights Major Infrastructure and Development Projects

In a significant move to bolster infrastructure ahead of the 2028 Simhastha Kumbh Mela, the Madhya Pradesh cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has approved a substantial allocation of Rs 590 crore. This funding is specifically designated for the acquisition of 437.5 acres of land to develop an advanced airstrip in Ujjain, capable of handling Airbus A320 aircraft. The decision, made during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, aims to enhance connectivity and accommodate the anticipated influx of pilgrims and tourists for the major religious event.

Strategic Development Under RCS-UDAN Scheme

Minister for MSME Chaitanya Kashyap elaborated that the Ujjain airstrip project will be executed under the Centre's Regional Connectivity Scheme - Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik (RCS-UDAN). The state government will provide the acquired land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the expansion and modernization of the airstrip. This initiative is expected to not only facilitate travel during the Kumbh Mela but also boost regional economic growth by improving air access to the historic city.

Comprehensive Development Initiatives Totaling Over Rs 15,000 Crore

Beyond the airstrip, the cabinet cleared a wide array of development projects spanning multiple sectors, with a cumulative outlay exceeding Rs 15,000 crore. Key approvals include:
