Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed the completion of 12 years of the Garib Kalyan Yojana, a flagship initiative of his government aimed at uplifting the poor and marginalized sections of society. In a series of posts on social media, Modi highlighted the transformative impact of various welfare schemes launched under the yojana, which have reached millions of beneficiaries across the country.
Key Schemes Under Garib Kalyan Yojana
The Garib Kalyan Yojana, launched in 2014, encompasses a range of programs designed to provide financial assistance, food security, housing, and healthcare to the underprivileged. Among the notable schemes are the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which provides free LPG connections to poor households; the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, which ensures financial inclusion; and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which aims to provide affordable housing. Additionally, the Ayushman Bharat scheme offers health insurance coverage to over 50 crore people.
Impact on Rural and Urban Poor
The government claims that these schemes have significantly reduced poverty and improved living standards. According to official data, over 10 crore families have received free LPG connections, more than 40 crore bank accounts have been opened under Jan Dhan, and over 2 crore houses have been built under the housing scheme. Modi emphasized that the yojana has been a game-changer for the poor, providing them with dignity and opportunities.
Future Plans and Expansion
The Prime Minister also outlined future plans to expand the reach of these schemes. He announced that the government is working on integrating technology to ensure seamless delivery of benefits. Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) has already saved thousands of crores by eliminating middlemen. The government aims to cover all eligible households under the food security net and provide universal health coverage.
Modi concluded by thanking the beneficiaries and officials who have worked tirelessly to implement these schemes. He reiterated his government's commitment to 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' (collective effort, inclusive growth) and vowed to continue working for the welfare of the poor.
