Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the 'Bhoomi Poojan' ceremony for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project in Assam's Nagaon district. He also virtually flagged off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains during the final day of his two-day visit to the state.
Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the ambitious Rs 6,957-crore Kaziranga Elevated Corridor. This project forms a crucial part of widening the Kaliabor-Numaligarh section of National Highway-715 from two lanes to four lanes.
An official explained the corridor's multiple benefits to reporters. It will ensure safe wildlife movement across the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. The structure aims to reduce road accidents on this busy highway segment. It should also boost ecotourism opportunities while generating local employment.
The project includes approximately 34.45 kilometers of elevated wildlife-friendly corridors. These specially designed sections will allow animals to move freely during flood seasons. Currently, the highway disrupts their natural movement patterns when waters rise.
Additional bypasses at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat will further improve traffic flow. Prime Minister Modi personally reviewed a detailed model of the entire corridor during his visit.
Amrit Bharat Express Trains Launch
From the same venue, the Prime Minister virtually flagged off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains. These include the Dibrugarh-Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) route and the Kamakhya-Rohtak service.
An official highlighted the trains' significant benefits for passengers. They will enhance long-distance rail connectivity between Assam and several northern states. The routes connect to West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Haryana.
These modern trains promise reduced travel times for commuters. They also offer upgraded passenger amenities throughout their journeys. The launches represent important infrastructure developments for the region's transportation network.
Prime Minister's Assam Visit
Prime Minister Modi traveled from Guwahati to Nagaon to complete his two-day visit to Assam. The Kaziranga corridor ceremony and train flag-offs marked the concluding events of this tour.
The combined infrastructure initiatives demonstrate the government's focus on both environmental conservation and transportation improvement. The Kaziranga project specifically addresses long-standing concerns about wildlife safety along this critical highway.
