Polavaram Project: Union Jal Shakti Secretary Emphasizes Timely Execution and Quality Standards
In a significant review of the Polavaram Project, Union Jal Shakti Secretary V L Kantharao has underscored the critical importance of maintaining both quality and speed in all ongoing works. During his visit to the project site on Wednesday, Kantharao highlighted that every moment is crucial for ensuring the national project is completed on schedule, with no room for compromise on either front.
Urgent Call for Effective Time Management and Target Adherence
Kantharao urged officials to utilize time effectively and strictly adhere to set targets, warning that even minor delays could have a cascading effect on the overall completion timeline. This emphasis comes in light of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's announcement to finalize the project by June 2027. The secretary sought detailed insights into the action plan devised to meet this ambitious deadline, stressing the need for meticulous planning and execution.
Satisfaction with Progress and Assurance of Central Support
Expressing satisfaction with the progress achieved so far, Kantharao noted that works are proceeding as per the established schedule. He advised officials and contractors to establish daily targets and ensure their completion without fail. Assuring full support from the Central government, he committed to expediting all necessary approvals, including design clearances, to facilitate smooth progress.
Enhanced Coordination and Upcoming Comprehensive Review
Addressing past coordination challenges, Kantharao pointed out that earlier issues, stemming from the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) office being located in Hyderabad, should now be resolved following its relocation to Rajamahendravaram. He called for regular coordination meetings to foster better collaboration among stakeholders. Additionally, he announced that a comprehensive review involving all central and state departments will be conducted soon to assess and streamline efforts.
Detailed Project Presentation and Key Inspections
During the visit, AP Engineer-in-Chief K Narasimha Murthy provided a detailed presentation on the project's progress, covering aspects such as rehabilitation and resettlement, as well as land acquisition. Kantharao inspected critical components of the project, including the buttress dam, diaphragm wall (gap-1 and gap-2), D-Hill, and G-Hill, reviewing their respective timelines to ensure alignment with the overall schedule.
Focus on Hydroelectric Project and Future Milestones
Kantharao also visited the Polavaram hydroelectric project, where officials indicated that all generating units are expected to be completed by January 2028. This aligns with the broader goal of enhancing the project's utility and contributing to regional development through sustainable energy solutions.
The review underscores the government's commitment to advancing the Polavaram Project as a national priority, with a clear focus on efficiency, quality, and timely delivery to benefit the state of Andhra Pradesh and its residents.
