Prayagraj Launches Major Affordable Housing Initiative Under PMAY
In a significant move to address urban housing shortages, authorities in Prayagraj are advancing plans to construct more than 1,000 residential flats under the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). This ambitious project, led by the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), aims to provide secure and affordable housing for the city's economically weaker sections who currently lack proper accommodation.
Land Identification and Project Coordination Underway
The Prayagraj Development Authority has commenced the crucial process of identifying suitable land parcels for the housing development. The municipal corporation and district administration are collaborating to provide the necessary land resources. PDA has already initiated formal correspondence with relevant departments to accelerate the land allocation process, with several prime locations already shortlisted for consideration.
Key sites under evaluation include:
- A substantial 4,000 square meter plot situated near Dhobighat
- Approximately four bighas of land in the Peepal Gaon area
- Around 3,000 square meters in the Khuldabad locality
Additionally, discussions are actively progressing regarding potential land arrangements in the Civil Lines area. These negotiations involve PDA vice-chairman Rishiraj and municipal commissioner Sai Teja, with officials expressing confidence that the land allocation will be finalized in the near future.
Registration Process and Beneficiary Prioritization
The application process for potential beneficiaries has already commenced through digital channels. Nearly 1,000 eligible applicants have registered online via the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) portal, demonstrating significant community interest in the affordable housing scheme.
Once construction of the flats is completed, priority in allotment will be granted to these registered applicants, ensuring that those who have formally expressed need receive first consideration. This systematic approach aims to create transparency and fairness in the distribution process.
Addressing Urban Housing Challenges
This housing initiative represents a substantial response to the pressing need for affordable urban accommodation in Prayagraj. The project is specifically designed to benefit economically disadvantaged residents who do not currently own housing within the city limits. By providing secure, permanent residences, authorities anticipate the development will offer much-needed stability and improved living conditions for vulnerable urban populations.
The Prayagraj Development Authority's proactive approach in coordinating between multiple government departments and identifying multiple potential sites reflects a comprehensive strategy to implement this important social welfare program efficiently. As land allocation nears completion, the project moves closer to transforming housing accessibility for Prayagraj's urban poor through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana framework.
