Punjab Minister Announces Final Notification for Nangal-Kiratpur Sahib Four-Laning Project
In a significant development for Punjab's infrastructure landscape, Education Minister and Sri Anandpur Sahib MLA Harjot Singh Bains on Tuesday announced the issuance of the final notification for the four-laning of the Nangal-Kiratpur Sahib road. This crucial announcement paves the way for the long-awaited project to commence operations in the near future, marking a milestone in regional connectivity efforts.
A Long-Cherished Public Demand Fulfilled
Terming the project as a "long-cherished public demand and a personal commitment," Minister Bains emphasized that this infrastructure upgrade would bring about substantial improvements in safety standards, enhance connectivity networks, and stimulate economic activity across the region. The minister's announcement comes after years of persistent advocacy and groundwork that began with a detailed survey conducted back in July 2022.
Addressing Safety Concerns and Accelerating Implementation
Bains specifically highlighted the urgent need for this road upgrade, particularly at the accident-prone Nangal-Ganguwal stretch that has witnessed numerous tragic incidents over the years, resulting in the loss of several precious lives. "This road is not merely an infrastructure project. It is a lifeline for the people of the region," stated Bains, noting that the route serves daily commuters and thousands of pilgrims traveling to prominent religious destinations including Mata Bagla Mukhi, Baba Balak Nath, and Mata Chintpurni.
The minister revealed that with the final notification now issued and land records being published, all preliminary formalities have been successfully completed. "Our target is to finish land acquisition within a record time of two months and proceed swiftly towards tendering and execution," Bains added, outlining an ambitious timeline for project implementation.
Comprehensive Groundwork and Persistent Advocacy
Bains attributed the project's progress to comprehensive survey data and continuous engagement with key authorities including the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). "This was a people-driven demand. From senior officials to project directors, the matter was pursued relentlessly," the minister explained, emphasizing his commitment to delivering tangible development outcomes as an elected representative.
The four-laning proposal was firmly established based on strong survey findings and systematic follow-up with relevant government agencies, demonstrating a data-driven approach to infrastructure planning.
Economic and Social Transformation Expected
Highlighting the broader impact of this infrastructure initiative, Bains projected that the four-lane road would serve as a catalyst for economic growth across the region. Drawing parallels with Bharatgarh's development trajectory, he noted that improved connectivity typically attracts hotels, businesses, and investments, thereby generating valuable employment opportunities for local youth.
"The improved road network will benefit nearly 100 surrounding villages by enabling easier access to markets. Tourism will also see a major boost, positively impacting small traders, shopkeepers, and local entrepreneurs," Bains elaborated, painting a comprehensive picture of the project's potential benefits.
A Vision for Regional Prosperity
In his concluding remarks, the minister framed this infrastructure project as central to his vision for the region's future development. "This road represents my vision for the future of our region. With the blessings of the Guru Sahib and people, we will ensure its timely completion and usher in a new era of safety, connectivity, and prosperity," Bains affirmed, expressing confidence in the project's transformative potential for the area.
The announcement marks a significant step forward in addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps while promising enhanced safety, economic opportunities, and improved quality of life for residents across multiple communities in Punjab.
