Punjab's ASHA Workers Drive Health Scheme Enrolments Door-to-Door

Punjab Government Mobilizes ASHA Workers for Intensive Health Scheme Outreach

In a significant move to enhance healthcare accessibility, the Punjab government has initiated a comprehensive door-to-door outreach campaign to accelerate enrolments under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana. This initiative leverages the extensive network of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers across the state, aiming to ensure that no family is left behind in securing health coverage.

Massive On-Ground Mobilization Effort

Over 19,000 ASHA workers, supported by approximately 900 facilitators, are actively driving registrations in villages throughout Punjab. Each worker has been assigned a population of nearly 1,000 residents, covering about 250 households. Through door-to-door visits, they are spreading awareness about the scheme and assisting families with enrolment processes at Seva Kendras and Common Service Centres.

Officials highlight that this approach ensures direct awareness reaches households, particularly in rural areas, while guiding families through enrolment to prevent delays or confusion. The strategy focuses on seamless registration and verification, making healthcare benefits more accessible to all residents.

Government Commitment and Impact

Emphasizing the initiative's intent, Punjab Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Balbir Singh stated, "Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has made it clear that in Punjab, no family should suffer due to unaffordable treatment. Our ASHA workers are taking this promise directly to people's homes, ensuring every family is aware and able to enrol. This is not just a scheme on paper; it is a guarantee we are delivering one household at a time."

The impact of this sustained mobilization is already evident, with ASHA-led efforts contributing to nearly 10 lakh enrolments in the last 20 days alone. This has significantly strengthened the pace at which residents across Punjab are being brought under health coverage, reflecting a robust response to the government's outreach.

Incentive System and Expansion

To maintain momentum, the ASHA-led model is supported by a structured incentive system, where workers are rewarded for successful enrolments. This ensures accountability and consistent outreach across various regions, fostering a culture of proactive healthcare engagement.

The scale of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana continues to expand, with nearly 50,000 residents enrolling daily and over 35 lakh 'Sehat Cards' already issued. Districts such as Ludhiana, Patiala, and Jalandhar are leading in enrolments, demonstrating strong participation in both urban and rural areas.

Healthcare Outcomes and Future Plans

Beyond enrolment, the scheme is actively delivering tangible healthcare outcomes. To date, over 2 lakh treatments worth Rs 300 crore have been conducted, including more than 40,000 surgical procedures in areas like cardiac care, dialysis, orthopaedics, cancer treatment, and emergency interventions.

Backed by a Rs 2,000-crore allocation in the 2026-27 Punjab Budget, the government plans to further expand the scheme's reach, ensuring comprehensive healthcare coverage for all residents. This initiative underscores Punjab's commitment to transforming public health through direct, on-ground efforts and sustainable financial support.
