Karnataka's Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre announced an allocation of Rs 1 crore for the development of cashew saplings in nurseries across the state. The announcement was made during an event held in Dakshina Kannada district on 17 May 2026.
Cashew Sapling Initiative
The minister emphasized the importance of strengthening cashew cultivation through quality saplings. The funds will be utilized to enhance nursery infrastructure, procure high-yielding varieties, and train personnel in modern grafting techniques. This initiative aims to boost cashew production and support farmers in the region.
Shola Safari and Trekker Handbook
In addition to the cashew sapling project, Minister Khandre flagged off a camper vehicle designated for the Shola Safari within the Kudremukh wildlife zone. The safari is expected to promote eco-tourism while ensuring minimal disturbance to the fragile Shola forest ecosystem. He also released a comprehensive handbook for trekkers, which includes guidelines on safety, biodiversity conservation, and responsible trekking practices in the Western Ghats.
