Delhi Government Unveils Rs 3,045 Crore Welfare Package for Senior Citizens and Women
The government of Delhi has announced a substantial financial allocation of Rs 3,045 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26, aimed at enhancing the welfare of senior citizens, women in distress, and persons with special needs. Key Beneficiaries and Pension Details
Approximately 4.40 lakh senior citizens, 4.09 lakh women in distress, and 1.40 lakh persons with special needs are expected to benefit from these schemes. Monthly pensions form the cornerstone of this welfare framework:
- Senior citizens aged 60–69 years receive Rs 2,000 per month.
- Those aged 70 years and above are provided Rs 2,500 per month.
- Women in distress and persons with special needs are entitled to Rs 2,500 monthly.
- An additional Rs 500 per month is allocated for beneficiaries from SC, ST, and minority communities in the 60–69 age group.
Implementation and Support Mechanisms
The Department of Social Welfare serves as the nodal agency for implementing these schemes, emphasizing financial security, healthcare access, and social protection. Applications for pensions are processed online through the e-District portal, ensuring efficiency and transparency. Funds are directly transferred to beneficiaries' bank accounts via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS), minimizing delays and corruption.
Continued Pandemic Support and Infrastructure
In addition to the new allocations, the government continues to support families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic through the Mukhyamantri Covid-19 Family Financial Assistance Scheme. Under this scheme, Rs 2,500 per month is provided to families who lost their primary breadwinner during the pandemic, with 11,789 beneficiaries availing support in 2025-26.
To further enhance the well-being of the elderly, the government operates four old age homes located in Bindapur, Wazirpur, Tahirpur, and Paschim Vihar. These facilities are part of a fresh push to introduce recreation centres for senior citizens, aiming to improve their quality of life through social engagement and care.
