Central Government Sanctions Rs 758 Crore for Four-Laning of NH-46 Stretch in Madhya Pradesh

In a significant infrastructure boost for Madhya Pradesh, the central government has approved a substantial fund of Rs 758 crore for the four-laning of a critical 22-kilometer section on National Highway-46. This stretch, part of the Itarsi–Betul segment, is recognized as a vital tiger corridor and agricultural hub.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav Expresses Gratitude to PM Modi

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav extended his heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the announcement of this major funding approval on Saturday. Yadav emphasized that this central government initiative is poised to catalyze comprehensive development across the region.

"The four-lane highway will facilitate faster movement of passenger and goods vehicles, improve access to civic services and facilities, and accelerate regional development," stated CM Yadav. He highlighted the project's potential to transform transportation efficiency and economic growth in the area.

Strategic Importance and Economic Benefits

The approved section is not only a crucial wildlife passage but also a major agricultural center, rich in natural mineral resources. The region boasts significant deposits of coal, copper, graphite, and lead-zinc, making enhanced connectivity essential for resource exploitation and industrial growth.

With the completion of this 22-km stretch, the entire Gwalior–Betul corridor will be upgraded to a four-lane highway. This enhancement is expected to:

  • Reduce travel time substantially for commuters and freight transport.
  • Improve road safety, particularly in the challenging hilly terrains of the area.
  • Promote eco-tourism in nearby natural reserves, including Madhav National Park, Ratapani, and the Satpura Tiger Reserve.

Wildlife Conservation and Safety Measures

A standout feature of this project is the integration of wildlife protection measures. Authorities plan to construct 11 special underpasses and overpasses specifically designed to enable the safe movement of animals across the highway. This proactive approach is anticipated to significantly reduce road accidents in adjacent forest areas, safeguarding both wildlife and human travelers.

Enhanced National Connectivity

National Highway-46 serves as a critical link in India's transportation network, directly connecting Betul to Nagpur. This route plays an instrumental role in bridging northern and southern India, facilitating smoother trade and travel across the country. The four-laning project is set to strengthen this connectivity, boosting interstate commerce and regional integration.

This infrastructure development marks a pivotal step towards balancing economic progress with environmental stewardship in Madhya Pradesh, setting a benchmark for future projects nationwide.
