Union Minister Sanjay Seth Launches Major Road Infrastructure Project in Ranchi
In a significant move to bolster infrastructure and alleviate commuting challenges in the state capital, Union Minister of State for Defence and Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth laid the foundation stone for a 6.06 km road project on Friday. This initiative involves a substantial capital outlay of Rs 303.53 crore, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety in the region.
Project Details and Construction Oversight
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is leading the construction under the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) mode on National Highway-33 at Vikas (Nevri Chowk). This project is designed to facilitate smoother and safer traffic movement, as confirmed in an official statement. Speaking at the event, Seth emphasized the importance of this development, stating, "It has been my privilege to kickstart these projects, which will play a crucial role in reducing congestion and ensuring faster, safer transportation for the people of Ranchi and surrounding areas." He added that this effort is part of an ongoing journey toward a "prosperous Jharkhand."
Key Features and Engineering Innovations
Given the escalating traffic pressure on NH-33, the Vikas (Nevri Chowk) and Rampur Interchange project is deemed extremely significant for the region. The plan includes:
- Construction of a four-lane flyover to enhance traffic capacity.
- A 1.240-km-long tunnel designed to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow, minimizing delays.
- Specific engineering features such as loops at the Vikas (Nevri) junction, connecting Jamshedpur to Hazaribag and the Kanke Ring Road.
- An underground box structure at the Rampur junction, linking Jamshedpur to the Ranchi bypass for improved connectivity.
Currently under construction, the project is slated for completion by December 25, 2027. It represents a collaborative initiative between the Central Government, the Government of Jharkhand, and the NHAI, aimed at enhancing logistics connectivity at both state and national levels.
Broader Infrastructure Developments in Jharkhand
Seth further announced that nearly Rs 17,000 crore worth of new road projects, spanning 450 km, are set to be launched in Jharkhand shortly. This includes:
- A vital section of the Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway, expected to redefine regional trade and connectivity.
- A Rs 6,000 crore Outer Ring Road for Ranchi, aimed at expanding the capital's development footprint and easing urban traffic.
He highlighted that development work is currently underway on over 1,500 km of roads in the state, with a total cost of approximately Rs 45,000 crore. Ongoing projects include:
- The Gola–Ormanjhi road, which is 90% complete.
- Three underpasses at Ghoraling, Phuldungri, and Baharagora to improve local traffic management.
- Construction of a bridge over the Chilgu River and Rail Overbridges (ROBs) at Itki and Chandil, enhancing transportation networks.
Upcoming Projects and Economic Impact
Additionally, Seth confirmed that approval has been granted for the Ormanjhi flyover, while road widening in the Charhi and Chutupalu valleys is set to commence shortly. Other upcoming works include:
- Strengthening of the Ranchi–Mahulia road to improve durability and traffic flow.
- The Koderma–Meghatari road project, which aims to provide better connectivity with Bihar, fostering regional integration.
Seth emphasized, "These projects will provide fresh impetus to connectivity, transportation efficiency, and economic growth in Jharkhand," underscoring the broader benefits for the state's development.
Event Attendance and Acknowledgments
The foundation stone-laying ceremony was attended by several notable dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand Mahua Maji, Khijri MLA Rajesh Kachhap, Ranchi Mayor Roshni Khalkho, and Deputy Mayor Neeraj Kumar, among others. Their presence highlighted the collective commitment to advancing infrastructure in the region.
