Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has ordered a comprehensive revamp of the Amma Canteens across the state, directing officials to improve infrastructure and facilities. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of service provided to the public through these subsidized food outlets.
Key Directives for Revamp
During a review meeting, CM Vijay emphasized the need for immediate upgrades to the canteens' physical infrastructure, including better seating, ventilation, and hygiene standards. He instructed officials to ensure that all canteens are equipped with modern kitchen equipment and proper waste management systems.
Focus on Quality and Accessibility
The revamp plan also includes measures to maintain consistent food quality and affordability. Officials have been asked to streamline supply chains and ensure the availability of fresh ingredients. Additionally, the canteens will be made more accessible to people with disabilities.
CM Vijay stressed the importance of regular inspections and feedback mechanisms to monitor performance. He urged local bodies to take ownership of the canteens and ensure they operate efficiently.
The Amma Canteens, launched in 2013, provide subsidized meals to the urban poor. This revamp is part of the government's ongoing efforts to improve public welfare services.
