Telangana Approves 2.5 Lakh Houses Under Indiramma Scheme Phase 2
Telangana Approves 2.5 Lakh Houses Under Indiramma Phase 2

The Telangana government has given the green light for the construction of 2.5 lakh houses under the second phase of the Indiramma housing scheme, set to commence on June 1. This initiative is part of the state's broader objective to eliminate all kutcha (temporary) houses and provide permanent housing for its citizens. Under this plan, the Cabinet has allocated 2,000 houses to each of the 119 constituencies in the state.

Financial Support for Incomplete Homes

In addition to new constructions, the Cabinet has decided to extend financial assistance for incomplete homes from previous schemes. Houses where walls are completed but roof slabs are pending will receive Rs 2 lakh each. Meanwhile, houses that had only reached the foundation stage during the Congress government in undivided Andhra Pradesh will be granted Rs 3 lakh each to complete construction.

What is the Indiramma Indlu Housing Scheme?

The Indiramma Indlu Housing Scheme was launched by the Telangana government in 2023. It aims to provide land and financial assistance to homeless and landless citizens of the state. Eligible individuals from low-income groups are allotted a free plot of land along with monetary help of Rs 5 lakh for housing construction.

Benefits of the Scheme

The programme is backed by a total budget of Rs 22,000 crore, with financial assistance disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Eligibility is restricted to Telangana residents from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) categories who do not already own a house. Key benefits include:

  • Free land to eligible landless beneficiaries.
  • Financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh per selected applicant to construct homes.
  • Each house built under the scheme will have a minimum area of 400 sq. ft. and include essential facilities such as an RCC roof, kitchen, and toilet, ensuring basic standards of safe and dignified living.
  • The scheme aims to ensure housing for all, improve living conditions, and support socio-economic development, while also promoting social inclusion for Dalits, tribal communities, minorities, and other weaker sections.
  • Additional provisions include 250 square metres of land for eligible Telangana movement activists, along with large-scale implementation plans such as sanctioning around 3,500 houses per constituency and a structured, supervised construction process overseen by district authorities.

Who is Eligible for the Scheme?

Applicants must be permanent residents of Telangana and should not already own a pucca (permanent) house. Preference is given to low and middle-income groups, including Dalits, persons with disabilities, and sanitation workers.

The scheme supports economically weaker sections by providing secure and dignified housing to those without homes or living in poor conditions. It strengthens financial stability for landless labourers and farmers by enabling homeownership, and promotes equal access for tribal and rural communities. Overall, it aims to improve welfare and socio-economic development while enhancing living standards for underprivileged families.
