Hyderabad: Housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Friday announced that the Congress government will launch the second phase of the Indiramma housing scheme on June 2. He revealed that out of the three lakh houses sanctioned under the first phase, construction work has been initiated for 2.90 lakh units. As many as 50,000 housing units have been fully completed, with beneficiaries having already performed housewarming ceremonies, he added.

Progress of Phase-I

The minister emphasized the significant progress made under phase-I of the Indiramma housing scheme. He stated that nearly 97% of the sanctioned houses have been grounded, reflecting the government's commitment to providing affordable housing to the underprivileged. The completion of 50,000 units marks a milestone, with families now residing in their new homes. Reddy credited the efficient implementation and monitoring mechanisms for this achievement.

Phase-II Launch Details

Phase-II of the scheme is scheduled to commence on June 2, aiming to extend housing benefits to more eligible beneficiaries across the state. The minister did not specify the target number of houses for the second phase but assured that the government would ensure timely execution. He also urged officials to maintain quality standards and expedite the construction process to meet the growing demand.

The Indiramma housing scheme is a flagship program of the Congress government, designed to provide pucca houses to landless and homeless families in rural and urban areas. Reddy further mentioned that the government is monitoring the progress regularly to avoid delays and ensure that all sanctioned houses are completed within the stipulated timeline. He also appealed to beneficiaries to cooperate with the authorities and utilize the scheme effectively.

The announcement comes as a boost for the housing sector in Telangana, with the government focusing on inclusive development. The successful implementation of phase-I has set a precedent for phase-II, which is expected to cover more districts and families.
