Telangana Government Explores Statewide Expansion of Free Breakfast Scheme for School Students
In a significant announcement that could transform the educational landscape of the state, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka revealed on Friday that the Telangana government is actively considering extending the free breakfast initiative to students across all government schools. This ambitious plan, however, is contingent upon the improvement of the state's financial situation and the successful mobilization of necessary resources.
Pilot Program Already Underway in Kodangal Constituency
Speaking at a public meeting organized to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Mogiligidda High School in Rangareddy district's Mogiligidda village, Vikramarka highlighted that the scheme is currently being implemented on a pilot basis. The initial rollout is taking place in Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's Kodangal assembly constituency, serving as a testing ground for the program's feasibility and impact.
The deputy chief minister emphasized the government's clear and firm intent to expand this initiative statewide. He stated that if financial conditions become favorable, the scheme would be rolled out comprehensively, ensuring that no child in government schools is left behind due to nutritional deficiencies.
Focus on Nutritional Needs and Inclusive Education
Vikramarka elaborated that the proposal is being carefully deliberated with a strong focus on addressing the nutritional requirements of children. He pointed out that inadequate nutrition during the crucial growing years can severely hamper both physical and mental development, ultimately affecting a child's academic performance and future potential.
"Poor nutrition during the formative years creates barriers to learning and growth," he remarked, underscoring the importance of this initiative.
Furthermore, the deputy chief minister stressed the significance of inclusive education in building a cohesive society. He advocated for a common school system that would promote equality and unity among students from diverse backgrounds.
Major Investments in Education Infrastructure
In addition to the free breakfast scheme, Vikramarka detailed other substantial educational investments by the state government. He announced that construction has begun on Young India Integrated Residential Schools across 100 assembly constituencies simultaneously. Each of these schools is being developed on a sprawling 25-acre campus at an estimated cost of ₹200 crore, reflecting the administration's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure.
Healthcare and Education: Pillars of Global Competitiveness
Vikramarka articulated a broader vision linking education and healthcare to economic resilience. He asserted that Telangana's ability to compete on the global stage hinges on the quality of its human resources. Strengthening both education and healthcare systems, he added, is fundamental to building a robust and sustainable economy.
"The 'people's government' has placed free education and healthcare at the very core of its policy priorities," he declared, reinforcing the administration's dedication to these critical sectors.
Celebrating Mogiligidda High School's Legacy
The event also served as a tribute to the rich legacy of Mogiligidda High School, which has produced numerous eminent personalities who have made significant contributions to the nation and society. Notable alumni include former chief ministers Burgula Ramakrishna Rao and Marri Chenna Reddy, as well as former Uttar Pradesh governor Satyanarayana Reddy, among others.
This announcement marks a pivotal step in Telangana's efforts to improve educational outcomes and ensure that every child has access to nutritious meals, thereby fostering a healthier, more educated, and competitive future generation.
