Telangana Government Considers Solar Pilot Project in Every Mandal
In a significant move toward renewable energy expansion, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka informed the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Wednesday that the state government is actively examining a proposal to select one village in every mandal across Telangana for a comprehensive solar power generation pilot project.
Current Solar Initiatives Show Strong Progress
While responding to queries during the question hour regarding solar power development, Bhatti provided detailed updates on existing renewable energy programs. "At present, under a pilot initiative, solar power generation is being implemented in 81 villages across the state, covering both domestic and agricultural sectors," the deputy chief minister stated.
He elaborated that as part of this ongoing program, solar plants are currently being installed for 38,216 households and 16,078 agricultural pump sets, demonstrating substantial infrastructure development in rural energy transformation.
Government Commitment to Large-Scale Green Energy Production
Emphasizing the administration's dedication to sustainable energy solutions, Bhatti Vikramarka highlighted specific achievements under national schemes. For the domestic sector, under the PM Surya Ghar Bijli Yojana, rooftop solar systems with 2 kW capacity have been successfully installed in 40,349 houses throughout Telangana.
In the agricultural domain, under PM-KUSUM Component-C, the government has implemented 7.5 kW high-rise solar plants that are benefiting 16,708 agricultural pump sets, reducing dependence on conventional power sources for farming operations.
Strategic Vision for Renewable Energy Expansion
The proposed mandal-level pilot project represents a strategic scaling of Telangana's renewable energy ambitions. By targeting one village in each administrative mandal, the government aims to create a distributed model of solar power generation that can be replicated statewide.
This initiative aligns with broader national goals for energy transition while addressing local needs for reliable, sustainable power in both residential and agricultural contexts. The comprehensive approach covering households and farm operations demonstrates a holistic vision for rural electrification through renewable sources.
As Telangana continues to expand its green energy footprint, these solar initiatives position the state as a potential leader in India's renewable energy transition, combining national scheme implementation with innovative local pilot projects to create a sustainable energy ecosystem.
