Tripura Surpasses 6 MW Solar Milestone, Eyes 10 MW by March 2025
Tripura's Solar Power Generation Crosses 6 MW Milestone

Tripura has marked a significant achievement in its renewable energy journey, successfully crossing the 6-megawatt threshold for solar power generation. This milestone comes under the central government's flagship PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, signaling a bright shift towards sustainable power in the northeastern state.

Ambitious Targets and Widespread Participation

State Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, speaking on Saturday, announced the achievement and revealed an even more ambitious goal. The state now aims to exceed 10 MW of solar power production by March next year. He commended the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) for its efforts, noting the scheme has received an exceptional public response over the past two years.

The numbers tell a compelling story of grassroots adoption. Currently, 17,131 electricity consumers across Tripura are enrolled in the scheme. Of these, 1,762 households have already installed functional rooftop solar panel systems. These installations are effectively turning residential rooftops into miniature power stations, contributing to a collective daily generation of 6 MW.

From Darkness to Hope and Financial Gain

Minister Nath highlighted the transformative impact of the initiative. What was once a common worry—power shortages and darkness after sunset—has now become a symbol of consistent hope and illumination. However, the benefits extend far beyond reliable electricity.

The project has evolved into a tangible source of financial empowerment. Beneficiaries are not only meeting their own energy needs but are also selling surplus power back to the state electricity corporation. This direct income stream is creating new economic opportunities for families.

At least 187 consumers have already begun earning from their excess solar power. Collectively, they are receiving Rs 53,514 every month, with the amount being credited directly into their bank accounts. This direct financial benefit adds a powerful incentive for more households to join the green energy movement.

A Statewide Movement Towards Self-Reliance

The gleaming solar panels, visible from rural landscapes to urban zones, deliver a powerful message of self-reliance and environmental stewardship. The scheme is fostering greater public awareness about harmonizing daily life with natural resources and moving toward a sustainable future.

Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, Tripura is effectively extending development beyond the reach of traditional power grids. It is sparking aspirations, instilling hope, and paving a concrete path toward a greener and more self-reliant future for its residents, the minister concluded.
