The Gujarat Police has launched a massive and technologically advanced recruitment drive for 13,591 positions, attracting an overwhelming response from over 10 lakh (one million) applicants. This translates to an intense competition ratio of approximately 73 candidates vying for each available post of Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) cadres.
Unprecedented Scale and Rigorous Physical Tests
The physical examinations for this recruitment are being conducted across 11 grounds for men and four grounds for women and ex-servicemen, spanning 15 designated cities and SRP training centers throughout the state. Organized by the Gujarat Police Recruitment Board, the testing phase commenced on January 22 and is scheduled to conclude by March 13.
In a recent update, officials revealed that between January 22 and 29, a total of 1,87,874 candidates were summoned for the physical assessments. Out of these, 1,16,075 candidates participated in the tests, with 50,383 successfully passing this initial stage.
Advanced Technology Ensures Transparency and Accuracy
The recruitment process has been described by authorities as a model of "complete transparency," "zero error," and "advanced technology." To achieve these goals, a robust and foolproof system has been implemented, leveraging cutting-edge technological solutions to ensure candidates are selected solely based on merit and performance.
RFID Chips for Precise Timing
DGP Neerja Gotru, Chairperson of the Police Recruitment Board, highlighted the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips attached to candidates' legs via velcro straps. These chips accurately measure running times as participants cross the finish line, with data instantly interpreted by computers to eliminate human error and maintain fairness.
Biometric and Facial Recognition for Verification
In addition to RFID technology, the recruitment drive incorporates biometric verification, including fingerprint scanning and facial recognition. These measures are cross-referenced with barcode data on the call letters issued to candidates, ensuring that only registered individuals participate. Senior officers provide manual supervision to complement these technological safeguards.
CCTV Surveillance and Real-Time Monitoring
The entire process is under constant watch through CCTV surveillance, with real-time monitoring conducted from a control room in Gandhinagar. This setup allows for immediate oversight and quick resolution of any issues that may arise during the tests.
Preventing Fraud and Ensuring Integrity
The emphasis on technology stems from past incidents where fraudulent attempts were made to infiltrate the police force. In early 2023, there were cases of male candidates using fake appointment letters to gain entry into the Police Training Academy in Karai, Gandhinagar, and a woman allegedly attempting a similar forgery.
To prevent such occurrences, DGP Gotru announced that the same biometric and facial recognition systems will be employed during the post-recruitment phase. When appointment letters are distributed and training begins, these technologies will verify identities, ensuring that no impostors enter the department.
Comprehensive Administrative Oversight
The recruitment board has established Appeal Boards at all centers, comprising four members, including an SP-rank officer and a medical officer, to address grievances promptly. Each testing ground is overseen by a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) or Superintendent of Police (SP) level officer, supported by over 90 police staff. Furthermore, DIG/IG level officers have been assigned special responsibilities for high-level supervision, ensuring the process runs smoothly and ethically.
This tech-savvy approach not only enhances the credibility of the recruitment but also sets a new standard for transparency in public sector hiring, reflecting Gujarat Police's commitment to modernizing its procedures and upholding integrity.
