In a decisive move to tackle chronic traffic congestion, the Gangapur police in Nashik city registered cases against fourteen car owners on Tuesday evening. The action came during a special drive targeting motorists who were illegally parking and blocking a crucial lane.
Surprise Drive on Congested Lane
The police crackdown was conducted at 10 PM on Tuesday on the narrow lane connecting Gangapur Road and College Road. The location, near D'souza Colony and directly opposite a liquor store, is a notorious bottleneck. Officers invoked section 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with causing danger or obstruction in a public way.
This particular lane experiences heavy two-way traffic daily. However, severe congestion builds up every evening after 8 PM, especially around the Shahid Smarak Chowk. The problem escalates when drivers stop their vehicles haphazardly outside the liquor store and adjacent shops to make purchases, effectively bringing traffic to a standstill.
Resident Voices Concern Over Chronic Chaos
Local residents have long suffered due to the traffic chaos. Bhaskar Chaudhary, an area resident, highlighted the broader issue. He pointed out that the chaos is not limited to the chowk but affects the entire lane. "There are many cafeterias and restaurants along this lane with no arrangement for parking," Chaudhary said. "Motorists thus park their vehicles along the roadside at whatever space is available."
Chaudhary also suggested a practical solution, noting that there are internal lanes where vehicles could be parked safely. He emphasized the need for regular police patrolling during evening hours to deter illegal parking and ensure smooth traffic flow.
Police Vow Continued Action
Inspector Madhukar Kad of the Gangapur police station stated that the surprise drive was launched in response to numerous public complaints about the persistent vehicular chaos on the lane. "We conducted a surprise drive and took action against the car owners," Inspector Kad confirmed. He issued a stern warning, adding, "The action will be taken again if the situation does not improve."
This police initiative underscores a commitment to addressing a daily nuisance that impacts countless commuters. The booking of the fourteen car owners serves as a clear message against the disregard for traffic rules and public convenience in the busy Nashik area.
