Pune Accident Claims Life of Teenage Girl

A 14-year-old Class X student tragically lost her life, and her friend sustained minor injuries after a pickup truck collided with their motorcycle on Wadegaon Road at Wadebolhai on Wednesday afternoon. The girl succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital in Pune on Thursday.

The Lonikand police have traced and detained the pickup truck driver, booking him under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh Ghorpade of Lonikand police informed TOI that the accident occurred around 12:30 pm when the two girls were returning home after attending tuition classes. “The victim was riding her father’s motorcycle,” Ghorpade said.

According to police, the pickup truck coming from the opposite direction collided with the motorcycle, and the driver fled the scene. “Both girls fell off the motorcycle. The victim suffered severe head injuries after striking a roadside stone, while her friend escaped with minor injuries,” he added.

“We traced the vehicle using its registration number and detained the driver,” Ghorpade stated. He further noted that underage driving is an offense, and police will ascertain whether the girl’s parents were aware she was riding the motorcycle before deciding the further course of action.
