In a significant crackdown on food adulteration, the Delhi Police have seized a massive 1500 kilograms of counterfeit desi ghee from a manufacturing unit in the capital's Alipur area. The raid, conducted on Thursday, exposed a long-running racket that supplied sub-standard products across Delhi and neighboring states.
Factory Busted Following Tip-Off
Acting on a specific tip-off received this Tuesday, a police team from the Outer North district raided the premises of Bansal Agro Food Industries located in Kheda Kalan, Alipur. A thorough search of the facility led to the discovery of huge quantities of spurious ghee, packaged and ready for distribution under various popular brand labels.
"Huge quantities of ready-for-distribution spurious desi ghee in different brands have been recovered," stated Hareshwar Swami, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North). The counterfeit products were being sold under brand names including NTC ERTH Vedik Desi Ghee, Gau Amrit, NAMDEV Desi Ghee, NTC Saras Gold, and NS Nadan Saras.
Essence Used to Mimic Authentic Smell
During the raid, officers made another alarming discovery: over 55 litres of artificial essence. This essence was allegedly used by the manufacturers to make the inferior, spurious oil smell like genuine, high-quality desi ghee, thereby deceiving consumers.
Police investigations revealed the deep roots of this illegal operation. "During investigation, it has been found that this factory was being run by one Gyanendra Singh. He has been making spurious desi ghee since 1995 and has been doing at the present address since 2014," DCP Swami explained.
A Racket Operating for Decades
The scale and longevity of the operation point to a well-established network. The accused, Gyanendra Singh, had been allegedly producing fake ghee for nearly three decades. His supply chain was not limited to the national capital but extended to adjoining states, posing a serious public health risk to a vast population.
This raid highlights the persistent issue of food adulteration in the market and the critical role of vigilant law enforcement and public tip-offs in curbing such dangerous practices. The police have initiated legal proceedings, and further investigation is underway to trace the complete distribution network of these spurious food products.
