The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, around 5:50 AM, near Vallancheri village, close to Guduvancherry. According to police reports, a lorry transporting a load of casuarina logs suddenly rammed into a tourist van. The impact of the crash was severe, causing the van to overturn onto the road median.
The tourist van was being driven by Jesudas, a 50-year-old resident of Thanjavur district. He was travelling to Chennai with his family members and relatives for a sightseeing trip. The group comprised a total of 18 persons: six men, six women, and six children, all of whom were seated in the van at the time of the accident.
