Eighteen staff members of Bharathidasan University, including both teaching and non-teaching personnel, are under investigation by the local fund audit (LF audit) following a complaint lodged by Professor K. Suriyan, who is the director of the Centre for Study of Social Inclusion. The complaint alleges irregularities in their promotions and discrepancies in the service certificates provided.
Allegations of Fabricated Evidence
Professor Suriyan has claimed that the past service records produced by these employees were either not in accordance with the norms set by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or were supported by fabricated evidence. The LF audit office has directed the university to submit all relevant records and service certificates pertaining to the employees' previous periods of service.
Audit Process Underway
An auditing official stated that the university is cooperating by providing the necessary documents, which are currently being reviewed. There has been a slight delay due to the recent elections, as staff members were engaged in election duties. However, the official assured that the work would speed up soon. A professor involved in the process commented, 'This is quite a common issue across universities. If the allegations are proven, we will recover the salary paid for the service period in question.'
The complaint names 18 staff members, including senior officials. The LF audit is expected to thoroughly examine the records to determine the validity of the promotions and the authenticity of the service certificates.
