A 19-year-old student was found hanging in a private hostel room in Kanpur's Kalyanpur Kala area on Saturday. The deceased was a second-year OT technician student at a paramedical college and a resident of Etawah.
As soon as the incident came to light, panic spread across the hostel premises, and the students informed the police.
According to fellow students, the boy had returned from home on Friday and showed no sign of stress; he was completely normal. However, late at night, he went to a nearby vacant room, where he allegedly hanged himself.
Kalyanpur police station in-charge Santosh Kumar said that prima facie, the case appears to be one of suicide. All aspects are being investigated. No suicide note was found in the room, and further action will be taken after the post-mortem report is received.
This incident has raised concerns about student mental health and hostel safety.
