In a significant crackdown, the Kanpur Police have seized a large consignment of illegal firecrackers and fireworks, weighing approximately 195 kilograms. The recovery was made on Sunday from the Moolganj police station area as part of the ongoing campaign against crime in the city.
Major Haul in Targeted Raid
The operation was conducted under the directives of Station House Officer (SHO) of Moolganj, SI Satish Kumar Singh. Acting on intelligence, SI Singh led his team to potential hideouts. The illegal stock was eventually discovered and recovered from the roof above a godown belonging to one Khalid alias Chand, a resident of Colonelganj in Kanpur Nagar. The seized items comprised four cartons and two sacks.
High-Level Supervision and Legal Action
The raid was carried out under the close supervision of senior police officials, including the Police Commissioner of Kanpur Nagar, the Joint Police Commissioner (Law & Order), the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kotwali). Following the seizure, the police have registered a formal First Information Report (FIR).
The FIR has been lodged under Section 5/9(b) of the Explosives Act, 1884, and Sections 223/288 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused, Khalid. This legal action underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating the possession and storage of illegal explosives.
Ongoing Campaign Against Crime
This successful operation is a direct result of the sustained drive against criminal activities in Kanpur Nagar. The police force's proactive steps in identifying and raiding suspected locations led to this substantial recovery, which helps in preventing potential hazards and illegal activities associated with unlicensed fireworks. The seizure of such a large quantity highlights the continuous efforts to enforce law and order and ensure public safety in the region.
