Dense Fog on Purvanchal Expressway Causes Deadly Crash: 2 Killed, 3 Injured
2 killed, 3 injured in Barabanki expressway accident due to fog

A tragic road accident on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district claimed two lives and left three others injured on Tuesday. Police officials have stated that dense fog leading to severely poor visibility was the main factor behind the fatal collision.

Sequence of the Accident

The incident took place near Saraiyan village on the busy expressway. According to preliminary reports, the crash occurred when a four-wheeler attempted to overtake another vehicle under challenging weather conditions. The reduced sightlines caused by the thick fog likely played a critical role in the driver's misjudgment.

Impact and Immediate Aftermath

The vehicles collided with significant force. The impact caused one of the vehicles to break through the roadside barricading and plunge into a ditch beside the expressway. This secondary event compounded the severity of the accident.

The two individuals who lost their lives on the spot have been identified as Bablu Singh (35) and Deepak Kumar (40). The three injured persons are Mohammad Tahir (55), Asif (22), and Kamruddin Ansari (64). They sustained injuries of varying degrees and were provided immediate medical assistance following the crash.

Ongoing Concerns and Safety Warnings

This unfortunate event has once again highlighted the extreme dangers of driving during dense fog, a common winter phenomenon across North India, including Uttar Pradesh. The Purvanchal Expressway, a major connectivity artery, has witnessed several accidents linked to low visibility during the winter months.

Authorities reiterate standard safety advisories for motorists, which include reducing speed, using fog lights, avoiding sudden lane changes or overtaking, and maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles when visibility is compromised. Investigations into the exact circumstances of Tuesday's accident are ongoing.
