In a horrific incident in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, a 30-year-old nurse was allegedly gang-raped by three men after she accidentally knocked on their hotel room door. The crime, which has sent shockwaves through the city, occurred on Wednesday night near the railway station area.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests
The Vedant Nagar police moved quickly and arrested all three accused by Thursday. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ghanshyam Rathod (27), Rishikesh Chavan (25), and Kiran Rathod (25). Police revealed that both the Rathods work as recovery agents for a bank, while Chavan is an MBA student. A local court has remanded them to police custody for four days.
Inspector Pravina Yadav stated that the accused fled immediately after committing the crime, which took place between 11 PM on Wednesday and 3 AM on Thursday. "They were traced within three hours of the complaint based on technical and local intelligence inputs," Yadav said. The preliminary investigation indicates the trio, who are friends, had gathered in the hotel room to consume alcohol.
A Tragic Case of Mistaken Identity
According to the police probe, the survivor is a married woman and a mother of an infant. She works as a nurse at a private hospital and is the primary breadwinner for her family. Her husband, previously unemployed, has only recently started working. Facing financial strain, the woman had sought monetary help from a friend from Bhokardan in Jalna district.
This friend promised assistance and asked her to meet him at a specific hotel. Around 11 PM, the woman stepped out of the hotel to take a phone call. Upon returning, she mistakenly went to the second floor and knocked on room number 205 instead of room 105 where her friend was supposedly waiting.
The Horrific Ordeal Unfolds
When the door opened, she saw the three accused drinking inside. She asked for her friend by name and was told he was not there. As she turned to leave, one of the men allegedly told her that her friend was inside and pulled her into the room. The police report states that the men then locked the door, forced her to drink alcohol, and sexually assaulted her.
Between 3 AM and 4 AM, the brave survivor managed to open the door, escape, and raise an alarm. She immediately approached the Vedant Nagar police station and filed a formal complaint. Based on her statement, the police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to gang rape, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation.
The case highlights a brutal crime stemming from a simple, tragic error. The police investigation is ongoing to gather further evidence and ensure justice is served.
