Tragedy struck Uttar Pradesh on Thursday night as two separate road accidents in Moradabad and Meerut districts resulted in three fatalities and left several others injured. The incidents have once again highlighted grave concerns over road safety on the state's busy highways.
Deadly Crash on Moradabad-Agra Highway
The more severe of the two accidents occurred on the Moradabad-Agra highway near Bhikanpur Kulwada village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Kundarki police station. According to preliminary reports, an auto-rickshaw carrying passengers was overtaking when it was struck by an unidentified vehicle. The impact was so severe that the auto-rickshaw overturned and crashed along the roadside.
The collision proved fatal for three individuals. The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Zaid (26), a fruit vendor from Mohalla Noorullah in Kundarki; Mohammad Sultan (32), an auto driver from Manjhola; and Krishna Nath (19), from Rampur district.
Injured Rushed to Hospital
In addition to the lives lost, three other passengers sustained injuries in the devastating crash. The injured individuals are Rajkumar, Anees, and another passenger whose name was not immediately disclosed. All three were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment. Their current condition remains a matter of concern for local authorities and the community.
A Call for Improved Road Safety
This tragic incident on a major national highway underscores the persistent issue of road safety in the region. The fact that the vehicle responsible for the collision fled the scene adds another layer of complexity to the investigation. Local police have launched a search to identify and apprehend the driver of the unidentified vehicle.
These back-to-back accidents in Moradabad and Meerut serve as a grim reminder of the consequences of reckless driving, especially during night hours. They have sparked renewed calls from citizens and safety advocates for:
- Stricter enforcement of traffic rules on highways.
- Improved lighting and safety infrastructure on accident-prone stretches.
- Greater public awareness campaigns promoting responsible driving.
The communities of Kundarki and surrounding areas are in mourning, grappling with the sudden loss of young lives. As investigations into both Thursday night accidents continue, the focus shifts to preventing such heartbreaking tragedies in the future.
