Belagavi Pocso Court Delivers 30-Year Sentence for Sexual Assault of Minor

A special Pocso court in Belagavi has handed down a severe sentence of 30 years of rigorous imprisonment to a 29-year-old man for the sexual assault of a minor girl, which led to her pregnancy and the subsequent birth of a child. The verdict underscores the judiciary's firm stance on protecting children from sexual abuse under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.

Details of the Case and Conviction

The convict, identified as Imran Riyazhammad Chaudhary, was found guilty of repeatedly abusing the minor in October 2024. After the survivor became pregnant, her parents took immediate action by approaching the police, leading to the registration of a case by Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Gangol. Further investigation was conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Shivanand Gudaganatti, who meticulously gathered evidence and filed a chargesheet before the court.

During the trial, the prosecution presented a robust case, including eight witnesses, 48 documents, and four material objects as evidence.
