In a significant crackdown, the Greater Noida Police has apprehended four individuals, including an on-site engineer employed by Tata, for allegedly pilfering newly installed aluminum cables from the construction site of the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.

Midnight Arrest and Major Recovery

The arrests were executed during a routine police check in the early hours, on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, near the Gautam Buddha University intersection. The police team from Ecotech Police station intercepted a suspicious truck, leading to the capture of the accused.

From the individuals, law enforcement recovered seven bundles of aluminum cables valued at approximately Rs 15 lakh. Additionally, they seized the truck used in the crime, which was fitted with a fake registration plate, and a Maruti Swift car linked to the accused.

Identity of the Accused and Their Roles

The police have identified the four men taken into custody. Shivam Sharma (22), a resident of Aligarh, was working as a site engineer for the airport's terminal building project. Irshad Ahmed (23) and Mohammad Siraj (21), both from Siddharthnagar, were the truck driver and his helper, respectively. The fourth accused is Izhar alias Sonu (26), a scrap dealer from Delhi.

During interrogation, the group confessed to stealing the aluminum wires from the airport construction site. They revealed their plan was to sell the high-value material as scrap metal for quick profit.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Sudheer Kumar stated that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including disposal of stolen property, cheating, and common intention. The case was filed at the Ecotech 1 police station.

Officers confirmed that further investigation is actively underway to uncover if more individuals were involved in assisting the gang or if this was part of a larger racket targeting infrastructure projects.

This incident highlights the security challenges faced by major infrastructure projects and has prompted authorities to likely review and tighten surveillance and access controls at the high-profile Noida International Airport site in Jewar.
