Dewas Police Bust Highway Theft Gang, Arrest 5 & Recover Stolen Goods
5 Arrested for Stealing from Trucks on Agra-Bombay Highway

In a significant crackdown, the Dewas police in Madhya Pradesh have successfully apprehended five individuals belonging to a gang notorious for stealing goods from moving trucks along the crucial Agra-Bombay highway. The arrests followed a detailed investigation triggered by a theft report filed in December.

The Theft That Triggered the Manhunt

The case came to light when Jasram Yadav, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, approached the Tonkkhurd police station. He reported that on December 10, a consignment of 13 LED televisions was stolen from his truck while it was in transit on the highway. Acting promptly on his complaint, the police registered a formal case and assembled a dedicated team to investigate the incident.

How the Investigation Unfolded

The investigative team left no stone unturned. They meticulously examined CCTV footage from cameras installed along the Agra-Bombay highway corridor. This technical evidence proved crucial, as the footage clearly captured the accused fleeing the scene after committing the theft. Alongside digital evidence, the police also activated their network of informers to gather ground intelligence.

Based on the leads from the CCTV visuals, the police first arrested Vikas Guden, aged 25. From him, they successfully recovered one LED TV. The breakthrough, however, came during his interrogation. The information he provided led the officers to two more suspects: Aryan Hada, 19, and Pankaj alias Rohit Guden, 22.

From these individuals, the police seized:

  • Two LED TVs
  • Cash amounting to Rs 38,000
  • One motorcycle
  • A cutter used in the crimes

Final Arrests and Total Recoveries

Following the chain of evidence and interrogations, the police net widened. Subsequently, Mod Singh Kanjar, 56, and Satish Kanjar, 26, were also taken into custody. From them, authorities recovered:

  • Five LED TVs
  • Another motorcycle
  • Cash worth Rs 53,000

In total, the Dewas police have recovered 8 LED TVs, two motorcycles, one cutter, and Rs 91,000 in cash from the five accused. The cumulative value of the seized goods is estimated to be approximately Rs 3.25 lakh.

All the arrested individuals have been identified as residents of the Kanjar community camp in Devmundla and Samgi, areas that fall under the jurisdiction of the Tonkkhurd police station. According to the police release, the gang's modus operandi involved cutting open trucks parked on roadsides at night to pilfer goods. The successful operation highlights the effectiveness of combining technical surveillance with traditional investigative methods to combat highway crime.
