Five Workers Killed in Tragic Tempo Accident on NH-66
A devastating road accident claimed five lives and left seven others injured when a goods vehicle overturned near Kottalakotte in Uliyaragoli village on Sunday. The tragic incident occurred on National Highway 66 under the jurisdiction of Kaup police station.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The accident involved a 407 goods tempo that was transporting both workers and decoration materials to a venue for decoration work. According to preliminary investigations, the vehicle was being driven by Ranjith, who worked for a local decoration agency.
Witnesses reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit a road divider and flip over onto the service road. The tempo was carrying three workers in the cabin and nine in the rear portion at the time of the accident.
Victims and Emergency Response
Most of the victims suffered severe head injuries, which proved fatal for five workers. The seven injured individuals have been admitted to private hospitals in Udupi and are currently receiving treatment in intensive care units.
MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty immediately visited the accident site to assess the situation and later met with the injured workers at the hospitals to check on their condition.
Official Reactions and Condolences
District minister Laxmi Hebbalkar expressed deep sadness over the incident through a post on social media platform X. She confirmed that the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the tempo that was transporting decorative materials from Kapu Majoor to Malpe.
The minister identified the deceased as daily-wage labourers and offered condolences to their families. She prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace and for the speedy recovery of those injured in this tragic Mangaluru accident.
